Action Performance was a designer and marketer of licensed motor sports products, including diecast models of motor sports vehicles from NASCAR and other American series, apparel, and memorabilia. The company was founded by Fred Wagenhals in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1992. The diecast models were made in China and usually marketed under the "Action Racing Collectables" brand name, but a part was sold under the name of a collectors club called "Racing Collectables Club of America" (RCCA). The most common scales were 1/24th and 1/64th, but some models in 1/18th and 1/43rd scale were also produced. In the late 1990s, Action Performance became a leading manufacturer of racing car models: The company developed a line of racing car models called Winner's Circle with the giant toy-maker Hasbro in 1996, took over the diecast model section of Revell USA in 1997, and bought an 80 percent interest in Minichamps in 1998 in order to strenghten its position outside the USA. However, Action Performance soon got into financial difficulties and became a subsidiary of Motorsport Authentics, a conglomerate specialized in NASCAR merchandising products, in 2005. Since 2010, some of the former Action Performance brand names have been owned and reused by the Lionel Racing company.
